March Madness – Midwest Region Preview/Review

Being a native midwestern-er, I consider myself something of an expert of this region. That being said, I know slightly less than a well-trained monkey about college basketball, but I’ll give this preview thing a try anyway.
1 UNC VS. 16 IONA
Riding the back of the bracket seeders, UNC gets a number 1 seed much to the resentment of many UK fans. UNC will walk through the first two rounds versus Iona and Washington to easily make the Sweet 16. They come in a shutdown Auburn’s 3-point shooting in that round.
5 AUBURN VS. 12 NEW MEXICO STATE
Auburn is the Golden State Warriors of the NCAA, they live and die by the 3 ball. They’ll outshoot the winners of 19 straight New Mexico State, and get by a really bad Kansas team to make the Sweet 16. However, I think their shooting luck runs out against a very talented UNC team.
4 KANSAS VS. 13 NORTHEASTERN
Kansas absolutely stinks this year and got this number 4 seeding based on March’s Passed. They’ll get beat by Auburn in the round of 32.
6 ISU VS. 11 THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
Iowa State bullied their way through the Big 12 Tournament like when I play against my 11-year-old brother and his friends in street ball. They have arguably the easiest first round match-up versus THE Ohio State University. They’ll walk through that game and make it to the Sweet 16 by defeating a very untrustworthy Houston team in the Round of 32.
7 WOFFORD VS. 10 SEETON HALL
Wofford won 20 straight games to explode onto the NCAA scene, and if I’m being honest, I had no idea who they were until I saw them at number 20 a couple weeks ago. The Terriers are steaming rn and one of my favorite teams in the whole tournament. Seaton Hall is a solid ball club and I made a lot of money gambling on them throughout the regular season, but I can’t see them beating the scorching hot Terriers. Although if they did manage to squeak by them, team confidence would be high considering the victory over UK earlier in the season.
2 UK VS. 15 ABILENE CHRISTIAN
UK has reasons to be upset with this number 2 seed- as upset as a 2 seed can be. They beat UNC in December, and they lost to Seaton Hall- by 1, but they still lost. So, I don’t think UNC wants to see Seaton Hall in the next round. Fun fact about #15 Abilene Christian, this is the first winning season in team history since 1971 and first tournament appearance in school history.
7 WOFFORD VS. 2 UK
Wofford-UK is the toughest decision Ive had to make in my bracket thus far. On one hand UK is always super talented and has an elite coaching staff who will make sure the team is prepared. On the other hand, Wofford is HOT HOT HOT, especially coming off a win versus Seaton Hall, their first-first round victory in school history and they’ll be fired up. Gotta go with the terriers again.
Sweet Sixteen, 6 ISU VS. 7 WOFFORD
As a future ISU alum, I’d love to see a Cyclone victory here, but the Terriers are even more riled up coming off an upset of Kentucky. Terriers move on yet again.
ELITE 8, 1 UNC VS. 7 WOFFORD
In the very first game of the season UNC defeated Wofford by 11. UNC still pulls out the win here purely based on the fact they have more talented basketball players on their team. They do win but by the 3 to 5-point range. Terriers end their cinderella story, going down fighting.
So, UNC moves on to the final 4. Yeah, yeah, I know. Real original, a 1 seed leaving the region. But how can you deny the pure talent of Roy Williams and Seventh Woods.
Make sure you tweet me how terrible a writer/bracket selector I am @jackwytaske
